April Blog Update, I can see again ,... and Sonia with little Queeny dropped by !

Welcome back to my little corner of the web and apologies for the late delivery.

Its been a bit of a quiet month this month, with no extra bits of work to show other than the flower shoot and the studio shoot that we did. But there were some highlights for me with the return of Sonia who brought along her most adorable little two year old Queeny with her. We have met up twice so far and are planning a reboot shoot in early May on location and future studio dates. I first met Sonia a decade ago when she was eighteen and shot with her then. She has always been respectful to me and always so very elegant. Seeing her again brought back those halcyon days of Tyler, Monalisa and Sonia … such good memories. You can find many of our shoots in the earlier galleries on this site, which are worth a look. I also think she has improved with age. Maybe its being a Mother that has done it, but anyway I am glad she is back. Her daught Queeny is such a character, always friendly and making as much noise-and disruption as she can, but she is lovely I have added a instax picture of Sonia taken recently when we were in MacDonalds. I did not add the one of Queeny as I don't feel right about putting children's pictures up on the web.

Another bit of good news is that my eye sight in my left eye has returned. Its about 75% better. I still have some floaters bobbing around in there and can hinder when I look closely at things, but fingers crossed they might eventually go as well. So I think I have dodged the surgery I was going to have.. I did not like the sound of that to be honest so I am pleased. And as my Christian Mother would say, believe in the power of prayer.

The next planned studio shoot for May was going to be on the fourteenth, but has been moved to the twenty seventh instead. Maryna Sedin is again coming up from London for this shoot and I am looking forward to seeing her again for our fourth shoot together. I also hope to do some still- life's in May as well. I have not created anything like that for a while, and of cause the regular Flower pictures as always.

So that's it for this month. Be sure to return at the end of May and see you all again.

Still Life Update

There is a bit of a fruity feeling to this selection of Still Lifes. Amy and I set the camera up to take a snap of one of my fathers big tomatoes. Then giving it a highly saturated look in photoshop..The tomato was taken using only natural light and textured wallpaper as it backdrop.

Here also are snaps of pairs and a vine of tomatoes, once again made to look more in your face with colour and loosely inspired by Andy Warhol's pop art pictures of Marilyn Monroe and the such.

Digital Art - Update

Turn back the clock to Novembers blog when I spoke about a shoot I did in the Boardroom Studio and Zavod Studio on the same day? One was with tattooed model Izzy Holliday a recreation of a panel from a graphic novel called 'Judgement On Gotham' (Judge Dredd vs Batman) where Judge Death is being tormented by his fears (Cuddly toys) With Izzy we also made a pictures with Izzy kicking a vending machine in Death Valley. picture is called 'Shit ! …. and I came all this way …?' Notice the child's tricycle and UFO's above. So who has come all this way?

Check out also pictures of taken of Xenia Model in the Debbie Harry 'Koo Koo' inspired LP, shot in her Zavod Studio in Sheffield/.The pins through her face were created by using knitting needles and added to the portrait in post production (Photoshop) edit As well as a simple portrait that stops and makes you look twice … asking what is wrong with this picture? There is also a one of digital creation featuring Mercybongo. That I will go into in the shoot section below.

May Updates, stuck fingers and a small spring cleaning for the site

Welcome back to my little corner of the web.

I am having issue with my fingers especially on my right side of the body getting stuck in an awkward position every morning. I had it so bad recently that I had to talk with the Doctors about it (yes I did manage to talk with one !). Its the onset of creeping arthritis I have in my hands and knees. It does not hurt, its more of an inconvenience trying to snap them back into place or massage them. Holding knives and forks is a problem now as does using a camera. Still it could be worse and I be in terrible pain some people have with arthritis. The joys of getting old I suppose.

So I have had a spring clean on the site and moved a few things around. Notice please the Beauty Shots and fashion/ mode gallery's are now amalgamated under one title. Notice also that there are now two projects folders. The projects folder is for ongoing work that I am still doing where as the Projects Extra folder is for stuff I feel I cannot do any more with. I had to do this as the project file on its own with everything in it was proving difficult to open and show its content.

There was no model shoot this month. Instead we have a gallery of pictures from a shoot with the lovely fashion model Mercybongo taken at The Boardroom Studio on the very last day of April. All hair and makeup was done by Kavour beauty, who did an excellent job as always. And check out the backdrop to the shoot especially made for this project. Awesome – best I have ever seen !!!

Thanks for dropping by and enjoy the show. x

*NEW* - Infrared

I have purchased an old digital camera that has had an Infrared filter added (or subtracted – I can not remember!) cheap digital camera see the full gamete of light including the infrared scale that our eyes do not see. Normally they have a dampener in the camera to ignore this, but here it has been changed to allow it. This then not only gives the old camera a new lease of life, but allows the photographer to take some weird looking stuff. I tried it in the studio to mixed results, but found it works best when shooting landscapes and vegetation. We used a local park to test it out and it turned all the trees and grass to a bright pink. I like it – I think it is interesting - and so will be doing more as and when I can. So here is a new project to show off the results as well as show some very old Infrared images taken decades before digital using the long defunct and sadly missed Kodak HIE 135-36 Hi-Speed Infrared Slide Film. Pictures taken are from locations as far apart as Cornwall and the West Coast of Scotland. I hope you enjoy this new project.
